Manufacture
In her workshop in Fiesole, Caterina produces sheets of "marbled" or "combed" paper size 50x70 cm. only made to order. Her work takes its origin from an ancient paper decoration technique which was imported from the East to the West in the XVI century. This technique first came to Venice from Persia and Turkey from where it passed to European countries where it was developed, especially in France, Germany and Northern Europe. In Italy marbled paper was widely used until the end of the XVII century, but the technique was then abandoned due to the development of industrial printing. In the seventies of the last century it found favour again. Florence has been the cradle of this revival.
